TACTICA:
The general theme of the army is that of a "tidal wave". The army is at it's most effective when it plays as aggressively as possible with everything continuously advancing and pushing forward.
The Drones will make first contact, hosing down screens and heavy infantry as they head deep into the core of the enemy lines. Their job is use their fly key word and auto hits to cause as much chaos as possible before eventually being destroyed and playing the Putrid Detonation stratagem to blow up and cause mortals wounds on as many important targets as possible, i.e warlord and characters.
Following the drones comes the Plagueburst Crawler and the Defiler. The Defiler is to play as aggressively as possible, advancing and plunging into the enemy lines, preferably heading for vehicles and elite units to pull apart in combat. If he gets to fire his guns in the process then that is a bonus. The Plagueburst Crawler will also play hard and aggressive, getting stuck in with the higher strength Plaguespitters and Heavy Slugger to take out screens and/or heavy infantry/elites. All the while ensuring that no enemy unit can hide, as the Mortar offers bonus supporting fire.
Alongside the Crawler will be the three Myphitic Blight-Haulers. Their job is to provide strong heavy fire support with their Krak Missiles and Melta shots whilst escorting the poxwalkers, plague marines and characters in a constant moving bubble of cover.
The Marines are there firstly to advance to mid field, whilst letting off those deadly Assault 2 Blight Launcher shots and then laying down supporting fire with their bolters and plasma gun. The Poxwalkers will be the last unit to reach the enemy lines, having been hopefully ignored during the game, they are now free to tie up the objectives and mop up any last resistance, overwhelming them by turning any fallen enemy into Poxwalkers themselves through Curse of the walking Pox special rule and The Dead Walk Again stratagem.
Mixed in with the Marines, at the centre of the army, will be the Noxious Blightbringer with the Fugaris Healm relic on top of his Toscin of Misery buff, to ensure that the entire army gets the best possible chance of advancing as quickly as they can.
The Tallyman is there to make sure for the re rolling hits in the fight phase, to ensure poxwalkers are as potent as they can possibly be, and also offering the chance to refund some precious command points.
In with the characters, marines and poxwalkers will also be the Plague Surgeon, giving everyone that little extra dose of resilience with his Tainted Narthecium reroll DR of 1's, and also lending a nasty bite in combat with his Balesword.
Typhus will accompany the Poxwalkers granting them that wonderful +1 to their S and T also, to make them even harder to get rid of, and also giving them that extra bite in combat. Add in a casting of Putrescent Vitality to this and you've suddenly got Poxwalkers with S and T of 5!
And finally, the core of the army, is the Daemon Prince himself. He will advance up the table centre stage granting his Prince of Chaos ability to reroll hit rolls of 1, making the Blight-Haulers Krak missiles and Multi-Meltas the most accurate and reliable heavy fire power in the Death Guard codex (3+, re roll 1's). His power of Miasma of Pestilence will give the Blight-Haulers that extra protection to ensure the firepower keeps coming for as long as possible. Benefitting from his 2+ save and potential mortal wounds from the suppurating plate relic, the Daemon Prince, like the rest of the army, will play aggressive, plunging into the enemy lines, along with the drones and the defiler, followed soon after by the marines and the poxwalkers. Hi warlord trait of revoltingly resilient will make him a nightmare to take down. All shall rot.
Would love to hear any thoughts, suggestions and opinions! Not interested in making some super competitive tournament list. Just want a good strong army that can give a solid account for itself. Thanks.
