I was trying to get my head around the inclusion of a Suppressor Squad in any of my Blood Angels armies.
You can only take a three man unit, and not necessarily cheap at 99 points or tough, and with 'just' three autocannons and if deep stirking suffering -1 to hit...hmm...fast though (and a fast attack choice). [not sure why GW didn't make these weapons Assault rather than Heavy for say 36" range]
However, the key thing that drew my eye for Blood Angels (to support my elite jump pack assault units) was their little rule Suppressing Fire: If they make a kill in the shooting phase, that unit cannot fire overwatch in your charge phase...V/ interesting this would really benefit against gun lines and complement a simultaneous charge elsewhere with a Slamguinius with Angels Wing!
But how can this be best used in a Blood Angels list though, and is the ~100 points worth it...? What are your thoughts?
They look kind of cool, I guess, and it is a real shame that they are not PHOBOS to benefit from say the Vanguard Librarian Obscuration powers Shrouding or Scryer's Gaze...GW missed a trick there, as I think combined with those powers would have really made this unit 'pop'...GW should have made all the Vanguard units PHOBOS!
I agree. The Suppressors feel like they are a miss in terms of synergy. Also, if you’re firing into a squad before you charge, chances are that you’re killing more than one model. So now you’re charging a full-power assault unit into an already depleted target, furthering the chances you wipe them out and are left standing in the open with your charging unit on the opponent’s turn? Ehh... I’d rather shoot at T7 armor with that statline and hope to lay down the 2-damage chunks to whittle it away.
Possibly. The fact there is only three of them in a unit you are probably only hitting 4 times, wounding 3 times, then say they save 1, you are only killing 2 models so it shouldn't be too drastic I reckon...You really only need/want one to die so you can stop Overwatch from one key unit.
Potentially three Suppressor units would be good in a Blood Angels brigade (or Outrider detachment in an Outrider/Battalion/Vanguard mix for that matter) and just sit them on the table just less than 48" away from things as you should/might out range a lot of things, and if they try to get out of line of sight you can use their speed to hunt them down, but again only to support your other assault units from not getting overwatched!
But that is a lot of points to use up (c.297)...is it worth it? Could possibly stop a whole gun line firing Overwatch though...and 9 maneuverable autocannons (3 units) isn't terrible fire support...
Turns out you need to obviously pay for grav chutes, so 2 more points per model, therefore the squad is 105 points as far as I can tell! Over a hundred, boo...
