Just put together my 1st 1500pts of Tau. The plan i to battle against a friend of mine which also just returned from 3rd ed back in the days, so we'r both kinda new :D
So I wouldnt mind som thoughts and tips as how to beat him, hehe.
So this is what I know about what my friend will/might field... He has the marines from the Dark Imperium box. He just ordered the "Space Marine Starter box" aswell. I wouldn't be surprised if he also have ordered a Predator.

Initial plan is to have the pathfinders around my Strike Teams, to give the extra 6" range from the MV31 Pulse Accelerator Drone. (Is this drone bound to stay with the pathfinders?) and support my army with Markerlights.
The Breacher Team will be roaming for Objectives.
The 2 Riptides along with the Broadside will form my firebase.
Ghostkeel will along with Coldstar be hunting for straglers behind enemy lines.
I should probably add that we agreed to not field Lord of War before we start runnibg 2000pts.
All sounds ok to me. Double Ripetide is tough. Maybe consider Velocity tracker for that +1 to hit any units that have fly key word...which is even units like assault marines, skimmer tanks etc. If it were me I'd also up arm the Commander and give him some more deadly weapons like fusion blasters:) But sounds a fun list and tough enough. You will learn lots after a few games! I've just filmed some Tau games...keep a look out for them:)
